A reader asked recently: “Matthew, why do you write Good News Friday week after week? Doesn’t it take a lot of time?” Yes, I answered; it takes two hours to collect and write the first draft, another hour to clean up, and another to add images or videos. It’s a lot of work, but spreading good news is central to my value proposition!
As I said in last week’s post - it’s not the list of news that matters. It’s the spreading of good news that is vital. It motivates me, attracts my peeps, and helps me:
Achieve the co-mission I promised to clients (not the commission that goes into the bank):
Spreading good news is valuable because it lets readers and myself co-create moments of time well spent (as I talk about the news below👇). That’s how we both rise a little higher than the day before.
Once I learned that value propositions aren’t about the production but the experience, I started to create a special place from which to connect with clients and, ultimately, earn a great living.
Good News Friday is valuable because it creates moments worth having. Just like another valuable thing worth having -
A friend, client, colleague or peer like You!

A Moment of Time Well Spent - Part 1
An Australian bank teller saved a customer from an online scam with a few smart questions. Marlena Karbowski of Westpac Bank thought something was amiss when a customer tried to cancel her home insurance to sell her home “to help her son.” The teller’s instincts pushed her to ask her client a few questions, revealing the money was actually for a “boyfriend stuck in jail overseas.” Karbowski was skeptical and asked when the couple last went for a coffee. It turns out, never, since the relationship was entirely online. The customer showed Karbowski some photos, which Google’s reverse image search revealed as multiple different people.
“We cried together, and then I walked her to the police station to report it,” the savvy teller tells 9News. The woman’s equity and savings were saved, “in a demonstration of the value of face-to-face service,” says the story of the true professional, something our industry knows so well!
